Dentistry Abroad

You hear a lot about people going abroad for dentistry, but I've noticed it's nearly always for cosmetic or preventative work they're choosing to have done, rather than for normal check-ups and subsequent treatment.
Has anyone gone abroad for normal dental health treatment i.e. check-ups, fillings etc, or is this just not feasible?

You can get dental emergency travel kits so if you have an accident or a crown falls out whilst on holiday you can patch yourself up until you can get back home potentially saving yourself a lot of hassle and expense!
