I have 'difficult' feet: slim heels, wide where the toes are connected. This usually means expensive shoes, but I try to buy them on discount. To keep them longer, I wear cheap slipper booties at home, or flipflops, or barefoot (but I had plantar fasciitis last year, so had to stop the flipflops and barefoot walking).
Have you tried either Vionic or Fitflop for orthopedic supporting flipflop / slip ons? Not cheap when new, but sometimes can be picked up on Vinted or Ebay at good prices. These helped my feet recover from PF after 2 years of home working through COVID wearing Uggs & Converse with no arch support 🙄

Many years ago, a NH podiatrist told me off for wearing slippers/going barefoot at home and said I should wear trainers.
I still wear trainers during the winter and trekking sandals during the summer. I have a pair of each specifically for house use.
I've had operations on both feet.

Similarly to Pollycat, an NHS podiatrist advised me to wear shoes with laces or as a minimum two straps securing shoe to foot and never to wear flip flop type footwear or slip on boots/shoes. I have a collapsing toe joint. GP also advised never to walk in regular shoes, always use a walking shoe/boot.
