ok Ill keep it short, i had a house which i moved out of about 3 years ago- prior to moving out i had a key meter that had been broken for three years- it stopped caring about the key and gave me free electric- i must of rang n power at least 20 times, they made tons off appointments to fix it and either did no shows or turned up and gave me 50 reasons why they couldn't fix it, and finally fixed it after 3 years of this , two weeks before i moved out, then rang me and told me i owed them an amount - i cant remember what it was, at which point i said send me the bill to my new address in writing cos im gonna take legal advice as i tried to get it resolved by they were next to useless and its left me with a huge bill which was the whole point of having a key meter in the first place. about a month ago i got a letter from lowel saying i owed 1200 quid, i just did no contract, return to sender, and now they've obv sold it to bpo, but what im thinking is, if i moved out 3 years ago and couldn't of made a payment for at least 3 years prior to that because the meter was broken so that's 6 years or very close to 6 years- do you think that's an avenue? how do i respond ? so far its just a text and a phone call, both of which i ignored .nothing in writing.

The debt was accrued up until 3 years ago though, so that would be the cause of action date, and so wouldn`t be statute barred.
Wait until you get something in writing, you may need to go down the complaints route with the original creditor N-Power, over this, but it would be long and laborious, you might not want to bother and just take your chances.
Lowell are debt buyers, they don`t normally sell on their debts, are BPO acting on behalf of Lowell?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I dont know yet as i haven't received anything in writing, another angle i was thinking is that n-powers record keeping was terrible, for bpo to prove the debt they'd need some sort of accounting from npower?0
