That is a dangerous piece of advice. Nothing may happen as the result of a single sickness absence meeting. But they are part of a cumulative process that can, and often does, eventually lead to dismissal. They are not tick box exercises. They are formal employment processes, just as disciplinarian are, and are just as serious.powerful_Rogue said:Sounds like a sickness investigation meeting. I've had one previously, was just a process the manager had to follow. Took all of 2 minutes with NFA taken. Just a tick box exercise.I didn't offer any advice, let alone dangerous advice. I gave a factual account of a sickness investigation meeting I had in the CS. It was just a tick box exercise as my line manager had already stated he was going to use his discretion and mark it NFA, however we had to go through the process.

2. at a Stage 1 meeting the only outcome that is in place is enhanced monitoring +/- Occ health review and generally a reminder that continued absenses will lead to the next stages of the process .
the exception to the above is if someone drops themselves in it with reference to being fraudulent with their sick leave
That said i would always recommend ideally a union rep , but otherwise a level headed colleague to be present on your side0 -

So it is not a " tick box" exercise. It is the first stage of a formal process which may lead to further stages if there is continued or further absence. Exactly as I have said. Anecdotal stories of what happened in individual circumstances doesn't reflect the fact that this is a formal process which needs to be followed to comply with legal requirements if further action is taken. Compassion or discretion are not part of that - an employer can exercise either or both, but they are not required to.EnPointe said:
