V2H when?

I know this issue crops up in other threads every now and then. But I was doing a calculation to see if I would benefit from extra battery capacity; I have a heat pump so I am a heavy user of electricity in winter. I came to the conclusion that adding 15 kW of usable capacity would save me about £400 a year, just from time shifting; I can save over 20p per kWh by shifting day usage to night/EV rate usage. I started to wonder if it was worth the cost of 15 kWh of storage to save £400 per year (opinions welcome) and it struck me that this was crazy because I have a 50 kWh battery which spends the vast majority of its time sitting outside my house. But as things stand I can only use that battery to run my car. It just seems nonsensical.

The when will be when all the myriad authorities/stakeholders involved have agreed a standard. I fear it will be like fusion energy and always 20 years away. Chademo was designed as bi-directional from the get-go but has become the Betamax de nos jours, unfortunately.0

It is working for us although our unit only charges at 4.5kw so even with a 7 hour over night period we can only add about 32kwh (59kwh car battery) which will not be enough when we get a heat pump which might need up to 30kwh on its own in the 17 hour window before our normal use of 10ish kwh a day.I think....0

Just looking at December 2023, I used over 30 kWh in the 17-hour day rate window 6 times. But an extra 32 kW of battery capacity would have sure taken the sting off those.Reed1
