We are getting into the 'season' where a lot of SIPP providers have in previous years offered cashback on transfers. II, HL and CS Direct are examples. II in particular can be a low cost option for a larger portfolio, without the need to stick to ETFs.

Obviously no certainty that this will repeat itself this year, but if it was me and I was looking for an incentive... I'd probably sit tight for a month or so.

ETA... ah I see the OP is already with II. Well, HL is probably my next favourite, if in ETFs, because they pay out cash back from their offers very quickly!
Is there a cheap way to do HL though as their standard charges means you don't really benefit from the cashback by the time you have had to stay with them for 6 months to a year?

If one is playing the switch bonus game is it best to get everything into ETF first and then transfer in specie (is this generally possible with ETFs?)
    I think....

The last two HL cashback offers were significantly more generous than previous ones.
Presumably they were keen to get AUM and customer numbers up, as part of being readied for sale. So now the sale is going through, they may well be less generous with their cashback offers. We will see !

I transferred an ISA to HL from Fidelity which was all ETF's in specie, with no problem and quite quick.
£1000 cashback and platform charge of £45 pa.

As a customer, the takeover worries me somewhat. Makes me think about the security of the investments i hold with them, and if the service quality goes down i may well jump ship back to AJ Bell.

Not until after doing my third small pot next tax year though.

If my understanding of these things is correct, the investments you hold on the platform are yours, and are unaffected by the sale of HL. Platforms are bought and sold regularly with no problems on this score,
Although not sure what the position is if you actually have HL's own investment funds. Presumably they are also at arms length .
In any case I guess as a MSE forum regular, you will not be paying the high charges of any HL branded investments  :)

Nope - ETFs and investment trusts only. Platform fees capped at £200pa (SIPP) and £45pa (ISA) and free (GIA). I am not stupid 😀
