Free fruit & veg bags

Why is it that supermarkets like Lidl, Morrisons and Waitrose provide free bags for loose fruit and veg and the large supermarkets like Sainsbury's, ASDA and Tesco do not?

If their policy is to reduce plastic, why not do as Morrisons have and provide paper bags.

    Have you tried asking them..?

Simple, cost cutting.  And they can charge you for the reusable ones, win win for them.

I haven't actually, just assumed the answer would be that they don't have any? Has anyone else tried this?

I haven't used a bag for loose vegetables in years. Pick up three onions, weigh them, put them in my big shopping bag. No need for a smaller paper or plastic bag.
I think this is the reason Tesco/Sainsbury's have removed them too, paper or plastic the extra packaging is just not needed.

I like the fact that I can buy loose onions, carrots and broccoli in Sainsburys, price matched to Aldi. It saves unpacking and recycling the packaging.

I use the smart shop and stick the price labels on the back of my shopping list just in case anyone wants to check.
