Yes, assistance is available from your mortgage lender.
Ask them about mortgage forbearance. They will offer measures such as a temporary mortgage 'holiday' or a reduction for exactly circumstances as yours. It should not affect your creditworthiness. The regulator made this a requirement about a year ago following pressure from Martin Lewis but many lenders including Halifax have always done this.
Note it is not 'free money'; you will gradually repay the shortfall over the remaining life of your mortgage.
