in Cutting tax
After some calculations in excel, it would appear I have paid several hundred pounds too much income tax on salary for 06-2007, as a result of starting work in july 2006 and not having correct tax code. However I have also underpaid tax on interest from savings and "owe" some money to hmrc.
Overall it would seem I am owed some money... what is the correct way of telling hmrc this... i would feel more comfortable if hmrc did the calculations to check i am right?

You simply need to write a letter to your tax office giving details of the savings income received in the year to 5/4/07 and saying you believe you have overpaid tax. They will already have your salary and tax details to enable them to issue the repayment. If this happens again, make sure you get your code number changed before the end of the year, otherwise you are in a queue with thousands of other people waiting for a refund.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
