Hi everyone
We are presently going through a full application with Kensington Mortgages, however hit a hurdle today…!
Throughout the week I’ve been supplying them with various documents. One request they had was for an employment reference from the ‘company accountant’.

I am employed in my parents business and we only have 4 members of staff. Also my mum (who is a Director) is a qualified bookkeeper and solicitor. She therefore does all of the accounts for this business and another.
I submitted her email for the reference to be sent, however they have said as she is a family member this is not acceptable.
The broker has said they can’t proceed unless they have someone who’s not family. We had our valuation booked at 9am to then be cancelled at 9:30am until this is resolved. Absolute nightmare!
Really unsure what to do and wondered if there’s any way to get around this?

Sounds a nightmare! Are you just applying to Kensington or could you get a broker to look at different options that maybe wouldn’t request these things?0

We are 4 days into our application. Hard credit search done etc, loads of docs sent to them quickly, all seemed to be going well with valuation booked etc, and now this! The Broker said there are other lenders available, but we seem so close with this one…over something so petty it’s incredible! Surely there’s a way around it?The trouble is Kensington take 24 hours to reply to things therefore don’t know if there are any options until Monday. Just thought someone on here may have an idea? Feel stuck in limbo now0

Who is signing off the company accounts? I always thought it would be a firm of accountants or at the very least a qualified accountant working as a sole trader. What qualification does your mother hold? I’m wondering if your mother prepares the accounts as an internal book keeper, but they then get signed off by accountants.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
