Old State Pension

Hello, My Father passed away recently and now helping mother sort out financial matters. Mother says he was receiving approx £970 per 4 weeks, from his state pension, which seems to be a lot more than the basic old state pension . As a divorcee under the old state pension system your mum should be able to substitute her ex spouse's NI record if it was better than hers. For divorcees it's only for the basic state pension not SERPs etc, and doesn't reduce the ex's pension.

If your mum is in a care home and self funding she is probably entitled to Attendance Allowance.
