    As a divorcee under the old state pension system your mum should be able to substitute her ex spouse's NI record if it was better than hers. For divorcees it's only for the basic state pension not SERPs etc, and doesn't reduce the ex's pension.

    If your mum is in a care home and self funding she is probably entitled to Attendance Allowance.
