Civil Service Pre- Employment Checks Help?

Currently going through pre employment checks after being on reserve list but I have been told that the Government Recruitment Services are requiring my outstanding ID Documents.

I thought I had already uploaded these when I first applied using three upload sections in the application but they must no longer have them.

I asked them where do I upload or send these documents and they told me to send them in this email reply.

Maybe I might be a bit behind the times but is email a secure method to send three forms of ID I feel quite uncomfortable doing this, do I have anything to worry about?

If this is genuinely government asking, yes they are secure. As secure as what you have already used. It isn't obvious to users,  but there are secured "stuff" that protects public sector email. Sorry,  I forget what they call it all (not interested! ) but we all had the "stuff" explained a few years ago.

Or you can not do it and lose out on the role...

How long ago did you originally upload your documents? If it was more than / getting on for 90 days then they'll need fresh copies.

Email is not a very secure mechanism of data movement, it can be made more secure by using TLS but in my experience of getting that setup it requires IT stuff done at both ends and clearly the government isn't going to change its mail servers for the benefit of the OP.

Whilst I disagree with the poster above's first paragraph the second paragraph is true... your option is send it and risk interception or dont send it and dont get the job.

If you wanted to reduce the risks you could send 3 emails with 1 on each and ensure neither body of the email nor the file name state explicitly what it is. It's only a modest improvement though as those intercepting will be doing it in bulk and not just picking individual emails as they fly around the internet however by ensuring "ID", "Passport" etc are nowhere obvious then the scripts they use to try and find interesting materials in the millions of emails they've collected are less likely to flag yours.

I'd say 50% of recruitement agencies I deal with require ID by email and personally dont have an issue doing it but I am not very risk adverse
