Second hand vauxhall vectra/similar

Hey people,

I currently am the proud owner of a 9 year old nissan micra. It's only done 44'000 miles! It's fairly reliable, not had many problems with it. I would like to upgrade though... I'll have to save up first though!

I really like the vauxhall vectra. Is there any other cars of a similar look/size? I would like to spend ideally no more than £4K.

I know nothing about cars... any advice on this?

Thanks!

  • I've got a ford focus saloon, and I'd go for that before a vauxhall any day (wife has a Corsa and it's been a bit of a nightmare with minor repairs).

But really, it's up to your own preference.

    Good luck.

  • I'm quite confused about the mileage. Most of the cars that are around the <£5K mark seem to have about 80'000 miles on the clock!

    I think that's quite a lot isn't it?

10-12k per year is the average

Many people may knock vectras I had an Rreg oil burner one up until last year, I treated it like crap servicing sometimes after 30Ks, bad at checking oil etc had very few problems, never died on me, had a few high service bill over time, but it had done 150,000miles by the time it went, and that was only because a bus went in to the rear end and wrote it off. My previous escort was far worse in comparison.

I believe 10-12K used to be the average, but nowadays it's more like 15K pa. Insurance companies though still use the old figures as an average.

80K on a five year old car is not high given that the modern engine properly maintained will be capable of 200k+
Better to have an 80K car with a full service history than a 56k car without a complete history in my book.

Currently have a 02 Vectra for sale with 85K and a full history !!
