What can I cook on New Years day (broken oven)

My son was asking me about New Years day today, normally I do another big dinner but with pork instead of turkey. But my oven broke on Christmas day, I don't want to get anyone out to it until new year, as scared they will charge more for coming out over Christmas.
So what can I cook on New years that doesn't involve an oven but is still nice and festive? I have a grill, hob and microwave at my disposal. The microwave can probably roast but I can't find the book
I only use it for soup or beans lol

why not make soup on the hob as a starter and then have a cold salad buffet style meal where everyone picks what they want (poss micro jacket potatoes if necessary). this is the sort of thing i would do for new year - for pudding, if you want one, you could do somthing like bannoffi (sp??) pie - impressive and yummy but no oven needed.
or if you have the meat and wish to use it up you could do curry and rice or a stew in saucepans on the hob (also get hot main course).
just remember no one will judge you for doing your best without a oven - especially if food is yummy.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Casserole, Stew, Boiled potatoes, veg. All easy to do on the hob. Or what about something like steak or grilled chicken, pork etc
You could make a cheesecake for a pudding. No Baking required.

You could still have your pork roast, only with pork steaks instead.
Could you not pan fry potatoes? Make some mashed potatoe too, even grill this to make top nice and crispy!

Do you know what's wrong with your oven? I've got a fan oven and the element once went pop. The fan was still going round but there was no heat. Before deciding whether to call someone out, I unscrewed the panel at the back of the oven (inside) and noticed that the burnt out element just clipped in and so it was really easy to replace (and cost around £15 at the time). If you put the oven brand and model no into a search engine You will probably be able to find 'advice' or ask on the 'In my home' board.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

How about Ham in Coca-cola ala Nigella Lawson?

Yummy ideas thank you all!

troll I will give that a go tomorrow, thanks for the tip, sounds like it might be something like that, the digital display suggests the oven is on just no heat. It's so scary when things are digital, I miss the old fashioned dials lol
dotchas I like that recipe too, my own tip, try cherry coke!
Can't decide what to cook still lol will have to decide tomorrow though...
Thanks again xx"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0
