Do the supermarkets sell on our details,

Options
I have recently got the Asda app and been having home delivery from them,  since then I have been having emails saying click the link to claim winnings of one sort and another, which I do not do,
I look at the bottom and it has unsubscribe details in Houston, Texas and other places, it just seems strange this has coincided with me shopping on line with them

Hmmm - I think the supermarkets want the info for themselves, for competitive advantage.
It's entirely possible that you've done a search for things, and that has propagated outwards.
Oh, and if you click on the "unsubscribe" button in unsolicited emails, then you're at a minimum confirming you exist and potentially exposing security risks.

If you use gmail and your email address is say grannyyoungatheart@gmail.com, when signing up you can add extra details to the email address so you know if it's been sold on. So you could have given Asda - grannyyoungatheart+asda@gmail.com - All the emails will come through to your normal email, but any emails from asda would have the +asda affixed to them.

I’ve been using Asda for years and the app since it came out. Never had such emails.

Will be phishing from another site

Do not click the unsubscribe if it is spam, it could be a fake unsubscribe button which can then lead to other stuff.
Just click the mark as spam and delete/block the sender.

They can even fake the email address is comes from so blocking it can actually block genuine emails.

    Just delete them.

Unless you have entered their competition for something, then you won't have won.

gmail, outlook, hotmail, yahoo and all the other email services sadly always get spam/junk/phishing/scam emails sent to them, usually pretending to be from a known brand or company. Boots, ASDA, Tesco are always being faked - it usually has absolutely nothing to do with the genuine company. Never phone the numbers or click the links etc. Unless you specifically signed up for that specific competition, freebie etc. and even then I'd be cautious.
If it is something that says that you have to do something Instantly and have 1 minute etc. It is mostly always a scam, as scammers try and get you to do something instantly, so you don't have time to think or consider that it might not be genuine.

They can generate emails to automatically go out to thousands, sometimes they wouldn't have got your email address from anywhere, it can be a system that makes them up and just creates thousands of emails to go out to random email addresses.

I trust nothing - not phone calls, texts or emails - I won a games console once from a new company, They phoned me to let me know - I must have sounded so ungrateful or not excited at all. I did enter for it but I also knew the competition people had all the details they needed and would send it to me, but I wasn't getting excited until it arrived without giving any details out over the phone, then I could get excited when it was in my hand 🤣
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

I had a phone call once telling me we had won a hamper.  I thought it a bit odd as I didn’t  remember entering a competition.  It turns out him indoors had entered and it was a genuine phone call.  What was exciting was that we could choose the contents of the hamper from a long list.  The timing was perfect, we were off to a holiday cottage in the Lake District a couple of weeks later  :)

Unfortunately for the switched on spammers that won't work as their programs look for the "+asda" etc and remove it.  I find it coincidental that I often get a surge in spam after purchasing from Chinese Ebay sellers :o
