I would suggest using this tool - https://www.gov.uk/find-out-dbs-check
you answer questions and it will give guidance. If you then believe that the employer is going to perform an ineligible check, contact the charity Unlock - https://unlock.org.uk/
Employers should only be performing a DBS check at the right level.1 -
She does not really have a choice, the CoE is now very hot on this after previous child abuse cases. My wife had to have this just for being elected to the PCC.1

Its to be expected now days from a church perspective, anyone who holds a role (weather paid or volenteer) needs a DBS check. I have had to have one for about 20 years as I volenteer to work with a children's group, but we now have to get enhanced checks on church council members as they have the power to vote in meetings (anyone can attend meetings and have their say - But elected voting members need a DBS).
Hubby has a previous driving conviction and it shows up on his DBS, he was supprised to see it on his last check as he thought it was spent, however it was while the time has elapsed from his conviction date it was several weeks from the end of his ban so still active. It has not really been a problem - he has a meeting with our minister and is not allowed to drive vulnerable members home (should the need arise ) I am insured to drive his car so they are happy that if the need occurs I drive. Hopefully next time round it will be spent and we won't have to go through the rigmarole!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
