Online discounts for signing up for marketing emails and texts

I have been wondering if it is legal for a website to offer you a discount on your first/next order if you sign up for their newsletter and/or to receive texts, only to find out that a whole host of exclusions apply once you have signed up and they have your details? The company only lists those exclusions - which commonly exclude any purchase not at full price - when they send you your code, by which time you have committed.
Surely consumers have to be told exactly what they are signing up for BEFORE they do it?

Just unsubscribe. It's not cost you anything apart from a little bit of time and a great deal of annoyance.1

Yes I will do. Annoys me though as lots of websites do this. This particular company make you sign up for texts AND messages before they give you the code that doesn’t work. Trading Standards are taking it up.1
