How far back can I see my credit file?
Hi, I am trying to claim back PCP from 2011 and 12. I have no bank statements or policy number from that time.
the Financial Ombudman help line has told me I need to prove I was a customer and I could do this by showing I took out the finance with Toyota Financial Services (UK) Ltd in 2011.

Is this possible? Thank you

Check your credit files with the three main credit reference agencies and see what you get

Very unlikely though. The whole entry is removed six years after the debt is defaulted or settled, whichever happens sooner.
If TFS still exist, try a subject access request2 -
Records usually drop off your credit file 6 years after a loan/credit agreement is paid off.< Edit. Sorry, cross-posted with the previous poster >1

Note you are not claiming back PCP, there is no indication if anything will be refunded, or everything, or part of the payment related to the interest (assuming your deal both had DCA and it was negative).
If lenders have deleted your data under the usual 6 year guidance then you may well be out of luck but it's worth sending the MSE form just in case. Include as much as possible, perhaps vehicle reg from your annual VED, insurance quotes/renewals etc - if you have not changed bank in that time, they may have old records from your account showing ongoing direct debits for example
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If you know which bank you were making the payments from, a subject access request (SAR) to them might get you the details of the payments made.1

Could you check your emails to see if they emailed you anything?1

Nat West? Or Toyota?0

Bank statements showing payments to TFS prove that you were a customer at that time, so you can show those to the Ombudsman, but without any reference number or number plate it may be hard for TFS to find the records. Do you have any old emails or letters from TFS or the DVLA that could help?1

I have sent Toyota the DVLA record that shows I owned the vehicle on the dates I was paying the finance. I don't have any old paperwork from Toyota unfortunately. This was back in 2010/12.0
