Finding any old pensions?

Recently met up with a family member who retired 3-4 years ago. During the conversations they mentioned that whilst retirement planning they had found an old pension of theirs from the early 90s that wasn’t even on their radar. They were only there for a few years and found that they’d got about 30k in there!
got me thinking about some of my previous jobs, looked online to see how you might start looking if you have no information, whether you have or not got any old schemes hiding away somewhere?
One place suggested trying to look at old payslips, but I’ve only got scans of my P60s going back to the mid/late 80s which don’t give pension details. What a couple do state are “employee contributions at contracted out rate” - do you know if this would indicate I was in a company pension scheme??.
i have also read that if you were young (mid 20s) or had only been in a scheme for less than five years you may have been refunded your contributions when you left the company.
Any tips etc gratefully received

Have a browse through the threads on this forum - lots of info already on this issue.
If you were contracted out then yes, you were in a company scheme. See my post of 15 May 2021 https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6267734/is-there-a-really-detailed-online-method-to-check-nics/p1 (you need to read the thread - sorry for the length!).
Very useful reading: https://www.lcp.com/en/media-centre/press-releases/top-ten-tips-to-find-lost-pensions-steve-webb-lcpGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1
