Better Membership Cancellation

I currently hold a monthly membership with Better at my local gym and leisure centre. In two weeks I’ll be moving house and Better don’t have a gym near my new address.
I want to cancel but it looks like they want 20 days notice, so I’ll still be charged on my next payment date at the start of August. It’s referenced in their terms but surely it’s nothing more than a slimy business practice to steal one additional payment from you. I can’t think of many other subscription based businesses that can get away with that nowadays.
Just wanted to get some advice on what to do. Could I downgrade and then cancel so at least the payment is a lesser amount? What about if I cancel today and cancel the DD with my bank?

Gyms typically want one calendar month's notice. I'm no fan of this practice but it is the contract you signed up to. If you don't pay then you are in breach of contract. You can look into downgrading your membership so that your final payment is less...but make sure that downgrading your membership still allows you to cancel at the end of August and does not extend this period.Did you only today decide to move house, to somewhere far from your gym? Normally people plan house moves longer in advance, allowing plenty of time to cancel gym memberships etc.0
