Not sure about my new glasses

Options
Have got some new glasses from an online retailer following a recent eye test. They are varifocals. I was asked to provide a PD using an app called GlassesOn.

The glasses have arrived. I can read things onscreen perfectly well if I am looking straight through the lens at the screen, but if I move my head just a few degrees (even just 1cm) off centre so I'm looking slightly sideways through the lens, the text is blurry. This doesn't seem right. Am I expecting too much?  I've had varifocals before that haven't seemed like this.

Varifocals typically offer 3 different levels of focus area for the near vision part. The cheapest option only offers a very narrow field at the front where the prescription is as advised. In more expensive options then the viewing field is wider.

What happens if you tilt head down a tad (or raise screen higher) so you look through a slightly different part of lens?

My varifocals are not that dissimilar but if I get things just right I can read the laptop screen fine without much head movement, just the eyes.  Bigger screen or twin screens would mean I'd be looking to have different glasses probably.

That said, cheaper varifocal lenses will have narrower corridors of intermediate and near vision cf the more expensive versions.

Thanks. I did go for their middle option on the viewing field which I would have thought would be wider than this.

I've just had another go with the GlassesOn app. I measured this at 59.5 originally and this was what I supplied to the retailer. I've just done the check again and it's come up with 60.5 and then 60.0 twice. There was no mention of doing more than one measurement to double check, but obviously there appears to be a little lee-way in these measurements. Could this be the issue?

Looking at the paperwork with the glasses, my prescription for my right eye says +1.25, but they've made them to +1.00 so I'm guessing this may have a lot to do with it.

I will contact them and seek advice on what they've made, and also the PD issue.

Not sure what to do. Picked up my re-glazed glasses from the optician at the weekend, asked for my PD which they say is 62. 31 for each eye. However, I'm not convinced these varifocals are right. The intermediates they have done are fine, but the near distance on the varifocals isn't as sharp as I was expecting. They checked the varifocals and said they'd been made according to the prescription and to give them a go for a while to see how I get on.

Have checked on the app again, and that's coming up at 59.

Wondering if I should get another eye test from a different optician.

How often can you have a free NHS test when over 60?

In the meantime I'm not sure if the online company are sending me new or not. I asked them to wait until I was more sure of the PD, but I think they may have sent them through to be replaced with the corrected prescription from 1 to 1.25 already.

Well the replacements from the online company have been made and despatched, with the original PD of 59.5 I believe. Will see how these compare with the reglazed at 62.

The replacements from the online company are clearer than the reglazes from the opticians. The viewing field is quite narrow when reading on the screen though.

Going to have to go back to the opticians I think.
