Beneficiary of a will dies before receipt of proceeds - HELP/ADVICE required please!

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this question, but I would be glad of any advice or assistance as to where I should post it.
My grandfather, a widower, died in March 2007 leaving a will stipulating that his estate was to be split equally amongst his three sons (my dad being one of them). My dad was also the appointed executor of the will.
They each had each been given cash from my grandfather's savings accounts etc. and were collectively in the process of selling my grandfather's house, which would have completed the 3-way split of total assets.
Sadly, my dad recently passed away but without leaving a will. He leaves my mum and two adult sons.
Does this mean that my mum will now not inherit anything from the outstanding proceeds (i.e. my grandfather's house sale), and my dad's two remaining brothers now each get 50%?
Any help/advice would be greatly received.

My understanding is ...
As your dad was alive at the time of inheriting from his father, he did indeed inherit - he just hasn't been paid yet.
So this money will now form part of his (ie your dad's) estate. It may just take a lot longer to sort out your dad's estate, as the final figures cannot be worked out until the first inheritance has been paid.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Echo that - the money is due to your Dad's estate. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
