Clothes steamer vs vertical steam iron.

Hi all.

Generally speaking, considering all else is equal, does the vertical steam function of a steam iron work better than a garment steamer if the specifications for the iron are more powerful than the steamer or does the garment steamer perform better due it being a dedicated garment steamer?

For example, a garment steamer may be 2000w overall with a 30g/min continuous steam and a 90g/min boost, whereas an iron may be 2800w overall with 40g/min continuous steam and a 150g/min boost.

Does a steamer steam up the room quite significantly?

Any advice would be appreciated.

There are other considerations, with most steam irons the plate will heat up whereas with a garment steamer the plate doesn't get VERY hot. What are you wanting to steam but not iron and how heat resistant is it?

Not sure how rigorous the testing of steam generators are to know that you can truly compare one to the other... for example are the stated values for an iron for continous use in the vertical position or just the horizontal? 

We have a basic garment steamer, it doesn't steam up the room much at all as long as you remember to unlock the steam trigger when putting it down. Even then ours has a small reservoir so still doesn't have much impact other than running dry quickly.

It's just for normal clothes.

I am not sure whether the specifications for vertical steam irons are quoting figures for vertical or horizontal use.
