Fantasy EFL - Game Guidelines 

 

1. Introduction 

Welcome to Fantasy EFL, where you can compete by creating your own team of 7 players and 2 clubs across all 3 EFL divisions each week, who will score points based on their actual performances during the regular EFL season.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how to play, including registration, creating your team, scoring and everything else you need to know to get you going. 

 

2.  Registration & Login 

Fantasy EFL is completely free of charge.  To play, you must first register or login with an existing EFL online account. 

After registering for an EFL online account, you will be required to enter a team name, set your supported team and agree to Fantasy EFL terms and conditions before you can proceed.

 

3. Team Creation 

Your team will consist of 7 players and 2 clubs from any of the 3 EFL divisions and will be built from the following positions:

Defenders	2 - 3
Midfielders	2 - 3
Forwards	1 – 2

 

There are 3 formations you can build your team from:

1. 1-2-2-2
2. 1-2-3-1
3. 1-3-2-1

You can change your formation by removing a player from one position and adding in a player from another position.

For example:

1. Your current formation is 1-2-2-2
2. You remove 1 forward
3. You filter the position filter on the player pool to midfielders
4. You add a midfielder
5. Your formation will automatically update to 1-2-3-1

There are no restrictions on how many times you can select an individual player over the course of the season, but you can only select a maximum of 2 players from any one club each gameweek.

You can only select an individual club a maximum of 5 times over the course of the season.

You can add players to your team by pressing the ‘+’ icon next to any available player on the player pool. 

You can remove selections from your team by pressing the “Remove” button located on the player profile, or by clicking the ‘x’ next to their name in the player pool.

 

4. Captain 

Each gameweek, you must select a captain who will score double points for your team. 

You will be able to change your captain by pressing the “Captain” button available in a player’s profile. 

You can change your captain an unlimited amount of times, up until your current captain becomes locked (see point 8 – Lockout). You cannot change your captain to a player who has already played in the current gameweek.

Along with your captain, you must also select a vice-captain each week.  Your vice-captain will score double points for your team but only if your chosen captain does not play in the current gameweek.

You will be able to change your vice-captain by pressing the “Vice-Captain” button available in a player’s profile. 

You can change your vice-captain an unlimited amount of times, up until your current vice-captain becomes locked. You cannot change your vice-captain to a player who has already played in the current gameweek.

Captaincy and vice-captaincy only applies to players, so you cannot apply it to either of your 2 selected clubs.

 

5. Team Roll-over

Your team will roll over to the next gameweek automatically, meaning that you will always have a scoring team if you don’t make any changes, assuming that your players are selected to play by their clubs.

If upon your team rolling over, it means that you will exceed the 5 selection cap on one of your clubs, then we will randomly auto-replace this club with another.

 

6. Chips 

You will have the opportunity to play your Max Captain chip twice over the course of the season.

When the Max Captain chip is applied, the highest scoring player in your team will be automatically made your captain for that gameweek once all players in your team have played.

You can only apply your Max Captain chip before the first game of the gameweek starts.

You can reset your Max Captain chip if applied up until the first game of the gameweek starts.

If you use your Max Captain chip between 15th July 2024 and 31st January 2025, then you will get another opportunity to play this chip from February 1st 2025 up until the end of the season.

If you do not use your Max Captain chip before February 1st 2025 then you will still only have one opportunity to play it before the end of the season, it will not roll over.

 

7. Updating Your Team 

You can make as many changes to your team as you like each gameweek at any time throughout the gameweek, but only involving players who are yet to play.

You can remove a player or club from your team by pressing the “Remove” button from their player/club profiles.

You can add a new player to your team by pressing the ‘+’ icon on the player pool or from the “Add Player” button on player/club profiles.

 

8. Lockout 

Fantasy EFL will implement a rolling lockout mechanic whereby players/clubs will become locked as soon as that club plays (i.e. as soon as their game kicks off) in the current gameweek. 

Once lockout is active then you will no longer be able to add or remove selections from that team.

Once your captain/vice-captain becomes locked then you will no longer be able to change your captain/vice-captain.

Lockout will be automatically lifted once all fixtures in the current gameweek have concluded. 

 

9. Scoring System 

 

Players and clubs will be awarded points based on their actual performances during the 2024/2025 EFL season with players scoring differently depending on their position outlined in the tables below:

Clubs will score points based on the following metrics:

10. Leaderboards 

Once your team has been saved, it will automatically be entered in the overall leaderboard, where you can see where you stand against others. The overall leaderboard includes all other users who have entered a team.

Once you have registered and created a team, you will automatically be joined to a fan league of the team you support. You will be able to see where you stand in your club league, against other people who support the same EFL club. 

 

11. Mini-Leagues 

 

You have the ability to create and join an unlimited number of public or private mini-leagues over the duration of the 2024/2025 EFL season. 

Creating a public league means that this will be openly available for all users to join from the “Join a League” page. 

Creating a private league means that others can only join this league if you share the league information with them via: 

1. Sharing the league code 
2. Sharing the league link
3. Inviting via Facebook 
4. Inviting via X 

If you have created a league, you are able to remove users from your league up until that league starts scoring. 

 

12. Gameweeks

Fantasy EFL gameweeks will run from Thursday until Wednesday each week during the regular season. To see when the next gameweek begins, click on ‘My Team’ and look for the countdown at the top of the page. 

If clubs have more than one fixture in any given gameweek, any players or clubs you have from the team playing twice will earn two sets of points, assuming that the player plays in both fixtures. Any team captains playing in two fixtures will also earn double points for each match they play in. 

If you have selected players and/or clubs that don’t have a fixture – or, for whatever reason, do not play - they will score zero points for that gameweek.
