Firstly, congratulations, a quite amazing achievement. I can definitely vouch for involving your partner in the journey, you both need to be on the same page in order to get anywhere with it.
Having been on my own debt-free journey from £36K at the start of 2021, to what will finally (FINALLY!) be £0 in the next three weeks, there is so much to be said for it improving your mental wellbeing.
Picking up on your last comment though, I think there will be plenty of folk (me included) who would like to know more about how you cleared so much debt in 14 months on the joint income you have, and given that you've had a few overseas holidays too.0 -
WELL DONE, Great respect to get yourself out of debt in such a short time with genuine sacrifices.
So many people do not tell their partners and you are living proof that a problem shared is a problem halved.
I wish you well for the future all the best for your whole family.3 -
Time for a happy dance!!!

Congratulations, it's great to hear how people have turned things around for themselves and really helps people who are just starting out.Keep going with the complaints. I made an affordability complaint to Nationwide and eventually got a £16,000 interest refund from them which cleared the £11,000 balance and left me with £5,000, as well as removing the default that they had applied. It took two years altogether, fighting them at every step and escalating all the way to ombudman level at the FOS. Even when the decision had been issued they calculated the interest wrongly and I had to go back to them to correct it. In one last show of awkwardness they sent me a cheque instead of transferring it to my bank account.2

Well done. That must have taken some discipline. I think the fact that a lot of the debt came from home alterations rather than overspending probably helped in that you were not undisciplined before. Did you have savings/investments before and going forward will you be saving in the future now the debt is under control?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Not taking anything away from your achievements but on the surface, you're on great income so how do you complain about affordability to the credit companies?0
-
Still not sure how you got the credit card companies to refund you given your income?1

Congratulations. Out of interest, when did you take these cards out? Was it a few years or go or relatively recently. Also what did you get back, the interest paid plus 8%?0
