I already have 3 debts, which are being managed by a debt help company. 3 weeks ago, the debt help company telephoned me, to inform me that they had been contacted by email, by a debt collection agency. Apparently it relates to a store card debt back in 2002.. my debt help company wanted to add it to my 3 existing debts. I said no! as I haven't a clue as to what this debt is, any way after phone calls and emails to my debt help company, and getting nothing that rings any bells, the debt help co. rang me yesterday, said they had contacted the debt collectors.. and it's a store card dating back to 2002, and they gave me a telephone number, and a 4 digit reference number and told me to ring this debt company direct. I did ring them, said I had absolutely no ideas as to what the alleged debt was.. so I was asked for name and surname, d o b and address.. and she entered all the Info on her computer, and said I was not on their database, not my surname or anything to correlate with my d o b and surname. Asked her is she was 100% sure, so she checked again.. and said NO.. you are not down on our records.
I have no ideas about this as the debt collectors said they are purely store card related. I have never ever taken out a store card. I'm getting really fed up with the debt help company keep ringing me and asking me.. as I know 100% I have never taken out a store card.
could someone kindly advise me, as I haven't a clue as to what to do,and they don't seem (that's my debt help company) to listen to me, or read my emails.. I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall.
thank you 😊
ps I am new to this site, I hope I have posted on the correct category.

This is the wrong forum, you have posted on the insolvency board.
No worries, I will get this moved for you, once moved, please tell us who is this "debt help company" ?
As I suspect you are paying them for their "services", please tell me I`m wrong.
Don`t ever phone debt collectors, wait until they write to you, by post, very important you don`t acknowledge something that may be statute barred or not even your debt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Did you double check the phone number was for a legitimate debt collection agency? Hopefully the debt help place gave you a verified number as it sounds a bit like a phishing scam to me. And when you rang them you gave them lots of info they didn't have previously. Keep an eye on your credit reports just in case something new pops up from somewhere.
As for the debt from 2002, if it does exist, my guess is that it is statute barred and so you should have nothing to worry about. As sourcrates said - wait until they send you something by post.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. A debt that has had no payments nor been acknowledged since 2002 would be Statute Barred within 6 years, even if they got a CCJ in 2008 just before it expired, then the CCJ would become unenforceable in 2014.
It sounds like scammers on a data collection exercise.
They are thick as shiite so probably don't know about old debt being Statute Barred, but they learn.
You say your debt help company called you, did the caller happen to have a foreign accent?
You getting debt help does not mean they deal with all your debts, so if it WAS them calling I would be questioning why they accepted this allegation without first proving the debt existed.
Think carefully, did the caller know you had three existing debts or did they just refer to "your debts" and you filled in the blanks.
They may be working off a hacked database, they have partial data and are trying to fill it with things like your DOB
You can expect them to contact you again, maybe to say they have spoken to your creditors and have managed to get a discount of X percent if you pay a lump sum now, then they give you a bank account to send to or they say they will pay you something and fake overpay.
The alleged debt probably does not exist.
Actions
1. Look up your debt help company's website, make sure it is bona fide not a google ad, check phone number matches old numbers you had for them.
2. If the details match then do a Subject Access Request to Debt Help Company asking for all data and records related to you including documents, phone calls, emails and any correspondence from 3rd parties related to you.
3. Name and shame the Debt Help Company on here to help others.
4. Google the phone number of the caller from your phone, , see if it appears on WhoCalledMe as a scam. You say your first contact was from the Debt Help company, did you call them on their usual number ?
Do not engage with any callers again, any debt from 2002 would not be recoverable, so forget this, but still do the investigation.
In future do not accept calls unless the caller is in your phone book, nor from Caller ID Witheld, if it is anyone you give a damn about they will leave a voicemail.
Reply back on this so called debt help company, the debts they manage for you and what the arrangements are.
People here may advise you to take a different path, for all we know they may be scammers.
