I hardly use it, but did start doing a few comps, I think mainly over last Christmas. Then, a few months ago, way after I'd stopped using it, I got notification that my account was suspended. I tried clicking to appeal, but it wouldn't send me the code. So, after a few weeks, I set up a new account, cos it said I could do that, using the same email address, with a different user name.

After a couple of weeks, I think, that account was also suspended. I hadn't used it once! Again, it wouldn't send me the codes to appeal. I tried lots of times, and Googled for help. Tried everything, and then gave up.

Today, I thought I'd have another go and it worked, first time. I did exactly what I'd done before, but this time it sent me a code. I logged in and immediately got told my account is reinstated.

Why? And should I expect to be thrown out again, without doing anything?

I don't use Insta very much, so I'm probably not best placed to answer - but I didn't use it for 6 months and it let me straight back in afterwards. I would suggest changing your password, people hacking accounts on there is pretty common and it might be that something like that was tried that cause the account to be locked.

My husband just had his IG account permanently disabled today.  He did everything they asked for, confirmed email address, input code they sent by text and also sent a pic of himself and they still disabled it.  He used the account like I do to enter comps (but not as much as me).  He's never spammed anyone, used bots, tagged the same person or repeated the same comment again and again so I'm now worried its my turn next.

@Blue___Nile that's horrible. If they would say what we're doing wrong, we stop doing it. I think your husband could probably start again with a new user name, but using the same email address. If he wanted to. That's what I did, but they suspended the new account without my posting anything. I managed, eventually to get it back, but I'm not using it. It just doesn't feel secure. I will try adding some photos at some point, and see if they let me. Soooo daft.

Thank you for that, yes you're right we don't know what it is we do wrong.  They say its spam but I'm at a loss to see how he does that.  I must be worse than him.  Everyone he tags is in agreement so what is their problem.  If they don't want people entering competitions they should say so.  Its put him off to be honest.  Fortunately he had backups of his pics.  I think he will let it lie for a bit and maybe try again in a few months time.  I'm just worried they will go for me next and possible other compers.

I have an instagram account I use mostly for comping. The last two times I have @ mentioned more than one (but always no more than 3) of my friends, my comment was immediately removed and I got a message popup saying I'd broken community guidelines and threatening suspension. Not sure how you're supposed to enter these comps on Insta anymore unfortunately 😕

It's annoying. I've been unable to follow anyone since Christmas. And today it's not letting me tag on some posts, but letting me do it on others....make it make sense!

How is it not letting you tag? Does that mean it isn't making it into a hyperlink thingy? If so, might be worth copy/pasting it already hyperlinked. So, tag the person you want to on a thread where it will let you, then paste that and see if the link survives. Can't promise, but might be worth trying.

Bloddy Instagram. I still haven't used it since they let me back on. Am too scared to be thrown out again.

I use insta a lot to comp, I have an account I use solely for comping. I have only had bans from commenting during advent, but recently some of my comments have been flagged as spam, although I can continue to comment afterwards. These are some things I have done which seem to help (although no guarantee!)

• Have a large-ish pool of people you can tag so you aren’t making the same comment again and again
• Leave a few seconds between each tag
• Use emojis on the end of each comment when it’s just a tag, to make each comment more unique 
• Don’t comment more than 60-100 times in an hour. From a quick google it appears that there are limits on how many times a regular persons account can comment
• Occasionally put a grid post up to make the account less spam-like

I have also read that new accounts have much lower limits when they are created for how many likes/comments/follows are tolerated in the beginning, so I’d suggest slowly building up how much you use the app.  You can google for similar tips, and this is just my experience but hopefully it’s helpful!

There’s a limit of 7,500 for accounts you can follow, are you close to that?
