If you bought a new boiler between January and March 2024, check if you can get back around £100 from your installer, after the 'boiler tax' scheme was delayed to April 2025.

  • Hello,

We bought a Worcester boiler in March this year through British Gas.

I have asked them if we were charged CHMM, and they have replied as follows.

“Just to confirm that there is no charge passed onto customers for this. The CHMM is aimed at Boiler manufacturers, in this case Worcester “

I’m not sure if I should follow up further with the MSE article as reference.

  • I contacted our installer as we bought an Ideal boiler in January this year. I referred them to the blog link about the charge and if it affected us. Looking back at the invoice (just to see if it was mentioned) it didn’t say. Our installer did make reference at the time that manufacturers were putting their prices up this year. They’ve said they are checking with their supplier and will get back to me.

I received an email today after following up with our installer and we are receiving a credit of £110 plus VAT. They said they hadn’t heard of this/hadn’t been informed but have duly issued a credit which is great. Thank you so much for highlighting this, without your article I doubt many people would know.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.  I contacted our plumber and got a refund of £95.

I had a new Worcester Bosch boiler installed by iHeat, online boiler company on 13 March. I have contacted the company and after checking, they have confirmed this charge was not made.
