Recommend helmet cam for horse rider

There's no forum section for me but I thought cyclists could help
I often get bothered by out of control dogs and actually got attacked last week and the owner just gave me abuse, never even asked if my horse was OK (thankfully he was). Reported to police, they found the dog owner and 'spoke with him' but with no evidence I can't do anything more
So I need a helmet cam please? not too expensive as I won't be reading number plates (I don't ride on the roads), lightweight and with a good battery life. Thank you

Assuming it’s private land since you say you don’t ride on public roads, do they have permission to be on the land?

If not the the owner could report for trespass, if they are there with permission then I’m not 100% sure there’s anything you can do about it unless you have an exclusivity agreement

It's bridleways and I can certainly report a dog attack to the police

Depends on ride length and budget
If you have cash to burn, get a GoPro, and be mindful of battery. I have a drift unit which is HD and the normal battery is 3-4 hours and has an extended battery option (albeit you can't have it in the waterproof case)

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The Drift I have was about £100, 1080p and good battery life, footage is good enough to use for police reports e.g. reading number plates at least in the day

I have one of these on my handlebars.  It comes with Velcro strips that can be used to attach to a cycling helmet but I have no idea whether that would work for an equestrian helmet which I think is more curved on top.

The footage isn’t as good as a more expensive camera but it’s good enough to read the number plate after a close pass and has led to convictions …

I had a Chilli Tech one, albeit their first round, it was decent and compact but randomly stopped charging after 18 months or so. The reason I switched to drift was better quality and better battery, though in heavy rain and at night at speed it's a push to get plates from anything. I think if OP just needs footage to identify a person though that would be fine.

I attached mine with velcro to the base and onto the helmet, then used velcro strips to loop around the bike helmet vents though I agree OP might struggle with attaching it to a horse helmet. Perhaps look at how bikers fix them to motorbike helmets or similarly skiers

My first chilli Tech one lasted 3 years and then stopped charging. So far the current one is ok.  I figured that it was worth it because even a more  expensive one would need upgrading after a few years.  I’m not after YouTube quality footage, just want to know that I can be sure of having evidence of careless/dangerous driving if and when needed.
