Sainsbury's - 'expiring soon' / 'damaged' refunds.

I don't usually claim refunds for online orders of crushed Ice Creams and soon to expire items, but I am curious as to whether others do and should I start claiming refunds for items like this as Sainsbury's offer it?
If things are expiring soon I'd just eat them in the first 2 days before they do, but you can claim a total refund online and on the odd time I have it's quickly refunded. If Ice creams are a bit crushed I just eat them - they are still mostly intact and I don't claim a refund.
What is deemed a short expiry time? 2 days or less?
Often the driver will just refund me themselves via their PDA device when they see soon to expire items or damaged packaging, but not all drivers do this.
I often buy the meal deal and the sandwich is going off within 2 days and you can claim a refund for this even though it's pretty standard for sandwiches to expire quickly. I just think it's not very moral to claim refunds for things like that, but maybe I should?

I claim from ocado if one egg in a box is broken.0

Ocado refunded a box of cornflakes as the box was damaged and then gave me £10 off my next order. The driver processed the refund without me asking0

I'd assume that a refund would be available if the goods they sent had a shorter shelf life than than the minimum number of days specified at the time of ordering.0 -

Been numerous occasions where I've had mouldy fruit and other fridge items going out of date the next day after a 9pm delivery. Grapes seem to be a particular favourite.
On one occasion I Had 6 items on one shop which all needed to be "use by" the following day or the day after. When I pointed out that a 10pm delivery meant it was highly unlikely I'd eat what was meant to be a weeks worth of stuff overnight they refunded the lot.
It's lazy picking in store. But stores are good to refund. I'll generally only moan if we cannot make use of stuff with short dates or it can't be frozen.0 -
We occasionally have a delivery, but mostly we will do a click & collect at Tesco, so we can collect it nice and early on a Saturday morning.Last week, we had 2 packs of fresh fish cakes that had that days date on and we didn’t realise until we unpacked it at home, so I rang them and they processed a refund. We were able to freeze them, but that isn’t the point. We have to remember to check dates on fresh stuff when loading it into the car.We do shop in store as well, as we are Clubcard plus customers and you can only use the 10% discounts in store and some weeks the dates on the shelves are shocking. We always quickly check boxes of eggs and one time Asda delivered a box where 1 egg was missing. The driver refunded us on his PDA thing.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £38,466.860

My rule of thumb is to ask for a refund if I wouldn't have bought the item in a shop.1

Waitrose will send very short dated or reduced stuff out for free if that's all they have for the item you ordered.
If you request a paper invoice from Ocado, it lists things in order of use by date.
I've not had problems getting refunds but I rarely need them. Mostly, I shop with ASDA, Iceland and Ocado. Husband picks up stuff from Lidl and Sainsbury's, occasionally Morrisons.1 -
