When I Started At My Employment We Use To Have 4 Different Shift Rates Depending on what shift you are working. we have been informed today that the shift rates were removed about 1.5 years ago . Can my employer do this without giving me any notice of change to rates.

Well from the sound of it you’ve had 1.5 years notice via your payslips which will have detailed what you were being paid. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

They should have told you but it may very well have been somewhere in a long email sent to everyone about how the company is doing well, and marvelous weather and rates are changing and and and. Very easy to overlook these things even if you suspect you need to look for something.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. First company I worked for.... anything you are shifted for was 1x rate other than bank holidays where it was 1.5x. Overtime was 1x unless Sundays which was 1.5x and bank holidays at 2x. As a first job I thought this was ok but as I was shifted on Sundays didnt get much overtime.
A year in went to a meeting with other sites and found out they all got 1.5x for shifted work at weekends, 1.5x for overtime and 3x for bank holidays shifted or not. When the company suggested it a couple of years before I joined all the other sites said no whereas our union had said ok as long as they get 30 minutes with their members every month.
On the plus side, after being there 18 months they realised they'd forgotten to apply a 10p pay rise per hour and so everyone got a bonus... still didnt make up for having to take a call transfer from another site on a Sunday knowing they're earning almost double what you do.
how's no one noticed after this long?0
