Poll started 2 July 2024

With home insurance policy costs up 42% this year, it's more important than ever to use our Cheap home insurance cost-cutting systems to find the cheapest quote you can and lock it in. One of our recommendations is to use more than one comparison site, as they can cover different insurers, and often have different prices for the same insurer. Yet we know entering the same details on different comparison sites can be a chore. This week, we want to know how many comparison sites you look at when searching for home insurance quotes.

Let us know!

  • I'm nearly 65...........have NEVER claimed on my building or contents insurance.........I live in an expensive to rebuild property and own far to many things. I have gone for unlimited rebuild costs and unlimited contents cover..........Have reduced the cost by setting my excess very high...... ie would only claim for a major incident. I change my provider frequently.

What we need is a comparison site for comparison sites.  That way, we could all go to the best comparison site and miss out the rubbish ones.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I stopped getting my own quotes after an insurance company wriggled out of paying up.  I now go through a broker, who also gets car insurance quotes and even an insurance to pay extra towards dental work.  This has paid off big time when a drain under the house collapsed.  He dealt with all the paperwork and claims and the company paid up.
They don't mind losing one customer (so are happy to make it difficult or impossible to claim), but are not going to mess with a broker who had hundreds of customers.

I used 4 go compare, money supermarket, compare the market and quote zone. All gave quotes in the £200 plus area. My last insurer sent me a renewal of £192 for this year.

I also thought I'd try the banks and supermarkets insurance. They gave quotes under £90, apart from NatWest who just gave a ridiculous amount, tried Sainsbury's too but eventually went with Tesco bank at £62.

No idea why some of the quotes were so ridiculous. 20+ years of no claims too. Still happy with my Tesco bargain.

We have niche needs not served by many.

Haven't used a comparison site for several years now as the results are inevitable when you've a long list of things to declare over the relatively low single article limit used by them.
