My first post here after a few months of on and off lurking!
Anyway, I am really annoyed about the fact that I have been debt-free for a while now but I am still getting rejected for credit left right and centre. Surely it can't be fair that I don't owe any money yet i have to wait 6 years to be able to get credit again?
I'm not that irresponsible!
Anyone know of any ways around this or have any other suggestions? I am trying to move on with my life after a tough few years but how can I if i can't even get a mobile phone contract, pay for a tv on credit let alone think about settling down and buying a house...
What a nightmare....
Sorry to bring the mood down with my first ever post I will try to be more upbeat in future!
P.S. Good luck to all those trying to get debt-free, if I can do it you can, and don't hestitate to ask for any advice/queries if you need!

Welcome.
There are a few reasons you could be being rejected
- Are you on the electoral roll?
- Have you done lots of searches in the last few months (more than 2 or 3?)
- Do you have any CCJ's or defaults on your file (they stay on for 6 years)
- Are you employed? (they will look at your salary and make a decision as to whether you are a risk)
- Have you moved around a lot?
-Have you got copies of your credit files - if there are acounts which are paid off in full, they might still be seen as 'available' credit which could affect a lenders decision.
HTH - just a few pointers really as to why you might be getting a 'no' each time.

Why not buy a phone and pay as you go!0

Try applying for a catalouge like Kays or Redoute. Spend small amounts, pay on time and this will help build your credit rating back up...however you may well be waiting a good year before it affects your credit rating.
If you apply for credit cards too many times, even if you get turned down...this screams desperate to the lenders and they will refuse just on past queries alone.
If I was you I would give yourself time to build a credit rating before applying again.
If you have been with your bank for along time they may allow you a credit card, however it is rare they offer very good deals, but fine if you want to build a credit rating up.
Good luck0
