Northern Rail “duo” ticket.

So, the other day I went on the Northern Rail website, and did a return booking for two people. It was for Manchester to Southport, and in the box filling exercise, it offered a “duo” ticket. Amongst the rules laid out, it stated that the two people must travel together. The saving against two single return tickets was stated to be over 20%. After selecting my “return anytime” on the sameday tickets, I finally got to the input page for the credit card. This went fine, and I selected the option, of having my tickets sent on an email to my phone. I received two, or maybe three, barcodes for the two journeys, but certainly not four. As there were no ticket inspections on the journey, I didn’t have to run the gauntlet. My question is; as two people have to travel together to qualify for this duo ticket, does one barcode cover two people on the outward journey, and similarly on the return.
Thanks in anticipation.

I don’t know about the barcode version tickets, but if you actually purchased traditional tickets you would have been issued with two outward and two return tickets.1
