    I did and no where do you directly mention the potential for the recipient to be liable, which is the actual answer to OP's question . 

    What you said assumes people are aware of how things work, which they are not.
    You said in the majority of cases... and friend should check estate can cover a bill.
    That does not directly draw attention to the potential the recipient can be liable.
