Taking in a second retail job

So I posted about the mobile phone issue last week. This week I applied for some jobs two interviews one 16 hours requires more travelling job 2 is 4 hours in addition to my current 24 over 3 days. If I am successful in either what do I say to my current employer and do I have to say or give them anything for the tax codes to be right? How would I politely say I have taken on another job? I do enjoy the days I work but worked there 13 years and a change may be nice. Keeping the existing job to see if I get any extra hours may work too or maybe my current job will improve and I won’t be there long?

Tax wise you just fill in the starter form as "another job", tick box C, and HMRC will sort out the tax codes once your start is reported to them, your employer won't know why the code has changed - they don't need to and will just do as told. Depending on what your contract says about other jobs you may not have to tell them anything.

Check your current contract to make sure you don't have to get permission to take on another job. It's not uncommon as they want to ensure that their employee isn't taking on work which could/would impact on their ability to do their job.

A member of staff said you can’t work for a rival like Home bargains so what would I do? They have 8 hours at most leaving would mean I need JSA?0

It is possible there is a "conflict of interests" clause which prevents an employee also working for a competitor but you need to confirm this with your employer.1 -
The OP's questions are reasonable, but the only person who can answer them are the employer.

Other than the fact that your current employer very reasonably refuses to allow anyone (not just you) to have personal media technology whilst working, something that many employers require, what reason have you got to want to put at risk the job you have for a job that doesn't offer as many hours, and then think that taxpayers might pick up the slack if you don't have an income?0 -
The company said it’s ok aslong as I keep going my existing shifts as I said it was a company selling same stuff and HR said all fine0

And bcc your personal email address, if this is coming from your company email address.
Then they either jump up and down and say "no, we never said that", or they say "yes, that's fine", or they don't reply at all, but that's [sort of] OK because you can 'prove' that you discussed it with them.Signature removed for peace of mind0
