Indeed, that 33k pot for me would be all in Fidelity World P of that bunch, by miles. I'd guess you're paying some fees on top of that to the IFA.3

Sure, nothing wrong with that. But presumably Niv wants some emerging market equities, overweight UK and some bonds.ChilliBob said:Indeed, that 33k pot for me would be all in Fidelity World P of that bunch, by miles. I'd guess you're paying some fees on top of that to the IFA.

Even if so, it could be achieved d cheaper and cleaner. If desired.0 -
Yes, you can do it cheaper. Instead of VLS100 I would use a global fund and a UK fund, but including bonds would mean three funds and rebalancing. The extra cost of VLS80 can be justified.ChilliBob said:

I want to keep is easy to manage - I don't want to have to do rebalancing - I have a relatively high risk tolerance for these funds so 80 - 100% S&S is fine by me as VLS80 or 100 is balanced 'for me' . I accept I can probably make more if I do more tinkering such as a VLS100 and then separately manging bonds but I don't really feel I have the knowledge for that and I am liable to forget about them and not rebalance. Hence I went with a IFA that did the rebalancing for me but agree with others that 9 funds for ~30k seems a bit excessive.YNWA

VLS80 can justify the 0.22% charge for the bonds rebalancing, but I'm less convinced by 0.22% for VLS100. If all you want is equities and to overweight the UK (VLS is about 22% UK vs. 3-4% in a globally weighted fund) you can combine HSBC FTSE All-World Index with a UK FTSE100 or All Share index for about 0.12%. Up to you whether the saving of 0.1% is worth it. On £30k that's £30 pa, enough for a trip to the pub on a 2 for 1 burger night.

So I use etfs, one can make a fair copy of a LS80 with global developed etf, a sprinkle of emerging markets, gilts and a UK bias using 4 ETFs and dropping the charges a bit. The OP who can't be bothered to rebalance - a 20 minute job once a year with a spreadsheet for me - then a Vanguard lifestyle product can suit but know what you're paying for.0

And now for something completely different...
