I find it quite easy to wonder where I might be financially if I knew back then what I know now but I had fun along the way and have a different focus now. I'm going to try and support kids and grandkids with some financial wisdom - I read a book recently that said to aim to be a good ancestor 😁

You are all right and I do try not to wallow in those thoughts even if they occasionally pop up rudely in my head.

My teen is much better informed about such things so I’m hopeful they’ll have a more sensible path ahead!

I learnt today that I miscalculated my current loan, and in fact it will be fully paid off in October. I have been offered another similar no-interest loan to help fund the house repairs, so working out how much that needs to be and then making sure I can pay it back and build a bigger buffer so I don’t need any further loans is my goal.

I presume it’s ok to mention referral codes here? If anyone hasn’t had a Chase account yet and would like to set one up there’s £50 free for you (and me) via a link I can give. There’s a decent easy access saver linked to this so it could be useful, and no switching needed.

Also for anyone who is intrigued by Snag tights and clothing but isn’t yet a customer, I have a referral code that gets you 15% off (and a reward for me).

I’m trying to get over my discomfort at mentioning these things. Saving money on my shopping and getting bonuses when I can has helped me get to a better place financially, so it seems silly not to pass on those opportunities to others (declaring the nbenwfit to me too).

About 3 years ago iused a referral code from here to open a Chase account. It's my everyday account and I really love it. I like the round up facility which always feels like a bonus even though it's my own money and the rewards add up over time. I like my 10 savings pots too. Sometimes I don't recognise this sensible version of myself 🤷‍♀️

Like the idea of the Chase account with its' pots but not enough for me! I use YNAB and currently have 40+ pots! but it works for me. My cash back comes form using a CC for everything and paying off in full every month.

Fair enough! I like slightly broader categories and a bit of flexibility within them, but the general approach is so helpful.

(If you haven’t had a Chase account and want the £50 bonus without switching, that’s still an option.)

It’s the middle of the month and nothing much is happening money-wise apart from checking this month’s spending is on track. With it being the start of the summer holidays food budgeting in particular feels different as there’s going to be a teen at home most of the time wanting a well-stocked fridge and cupboards.
