TFL cancelled contactless card activity

My hubby lost his debit card, we noticed many fraudulent transactions which the bank refunded and stopped the card with replacement in the post. However, its still being used on the TFL network (we can see this in the TFL account the card is linked to) and googling it tells me TFL use an offline payment system so it isn't doing any live checks. How do we stop this please? No money is leaving his account, but TFL are saying unless we pay this balance he cannot use his card on the network again, and it seems like the chancer who picked it up can just keep on using it infinitely and a big old loop... Seems like madness?!

    Note: resolved with TFL who now say they wont pursue us for the outstanding money

    The replacement card will either have a completely different number or at least a new expiry date. If you set up an account at TFL (you may already have done) then your current card can be registered and the old, stolen card, marked by TFL as not available for travel. Unless he already had a TFL account and had previously registered it there he won't be able to add it now as is a blocked card.
    As for the earlier fraudulent uses TFL should now have a lot of information to track this chap and to give to the police in chasing the culprit. Have you notified the police?

    When I had my card stolen a few years ago I managed to stop it after just a few (large as it happens, nothing on TFL) transactions and it has not been used since. It is already marked 'not available for travel' on my TFL account and I did nothing at all for them to do this.

    Glad TFL have cancelled the owing money though. They are very reasonable if you contact them.
