Tax on second job

Hi all
Wondering if someone can help. Trying to get a second hospitality job alongside a full time job due to upcoming break in employment. Current job tipped us into 40% tax bracket, so will second job also have this level of tax or is it 20% as it's significantly under threshold? Is there anything that needs doing or is it all done by employers?

As you've used your allowances in the your main job this additional job would be taxed at 40% for all earnings up to the next threshold."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Tax is levied on the whole of your earnings for the tax year (plus any other potentially taxable income, such as interest on savings). If you take on a second job, your 'second' employer will use an emergency tax code until HMRC issue them with the necessary tax code for you. See your personal online tax account for options in terms of re-allocating codes.emmajane22 said:Hi all

Provided that the starter checklist is completed advising this is a second employment then the tax code BR (20% deducted on all earnings) will be used. This will of course result in under-taxing and will be adjusted by HMRC.0

The only "saving" by having a second job is that National Insurance is calculated per employer per pay period.
