HLTA - Handing in notice

Hi.

I currently work in a school and have recently been offered a job that is full time and not in a school setting. The school breaks up on July 18th and As a support staff I only need to hand in 1 months notice.

If I could I’d want to hand in my notice in my current job as soon as I can and work until July 18th or 15th as I want a few days to myself before I start this new job.

If I do this will I still get paid for my July hours on August 30th? Even though I’ve left before my July and August pay day.

my pay gets split across the 12 month calendar

Personally (and I used to work in an admin role in a school) I would hand my notice in now, stating it is with effect from 31 August.  You are due pay until the end of the summer holidays...I.e.31 August (assuming you're in England). Autumn term ends on 31 December. Spring term ends at the end of the Easter holidays.

Yes I am in England. My only concern is that with my new job they may want me to start asap. If I were to hand my notice in with the end date being 31 Aug would that mean I wouldn’t able to start my new job until after the 31 Aug?

Im not part of a union so I don’t really know who else to ask, I’m hesitant to ask HR because I feel like they’d always give advice that is in the interest of the school so they can save money

The pay to the end of August is only because your annual pay is paid equally throughout the year.
So if you have worked all the hours required by the end of term, then you do not owe them any hours of work.
That means you can take up other employment.
It would mean that you wouldn't have a P45 to give to your new employer until you had received your final pay from the school but that is not really a problem as any tax differences would be sorted out later.

    Ah okay, this makes sense!

The only slight caveat to that is if you are expected to do any odd days during the school holidays, although if you're leaving they wouldn't be sending you on training, and not much point in team building either ...
