Can I close bank accounts with mortgage lender?

I have a debit and credit card with Nationwide and want to take out a mortgage with them in a few months. I don't use the accounts so I want to close them. Does it help me to have existing accounts with them when I take out a mortgage and is it okay for me to just close the accounts?

Not really unless it's a condition of the mortgage0

The days are long gone when the lenders liked you to be a nice loyal customer with a current account.0
