Speeding up P800 calculation process?!

Evening all, I wonder if some of you may be able to help.
In the last tax year (2023/2024) I was working full time PAYE from April through to end of January. During this time I was paying tax on my earnings. From February- end of 2023 tax year I was unemployed and not in receipt of any benefits or taxable income. Therefore, as I had no income for these 2 months I have ended up paying over £400 extra in tax (from my full time job) for that year. I started a new job just after the new tax year, so I can't receive a rebate via my monthly pay. I've read that if you have overpaid tax you will be issued with a P800 calculation form, but that these are issued anywhere between June- October. Is there any way of speeding up this process? A department I can write to or phone, as I am now in need of the overpayment money. Thanks in advance!

HMRC is the department which is responsible for your personal tax and contact details are on the gov.uk website:

    https://www.gov.uk/contact-hmrc

I'm not aware of anything to speed up the process and there are reports of many delays with HMRC at moment.

Your best bet is to try phoning, 8am sharp is often recommended on the Cutting Tax board.

It's also worth checking your Personal Tax Account.  You will see the outcome slightly sooner there compared to when the P800 will be delivered via snail mail.

In most cases HMRC no longer issue tax refunds with the P800.  The P800 invites you to go online and transfer the tax refund into your bank account.  So you have the money within a few days of it appearing in your Personal Tax Account (or receiving the P800 calculation).

Someone has posted on the Savings & Investments board about receiving what sounds like a digital version of a P800 for last year so HMRC seem to have started their annual review.
