Yes, as I stated in my post you've quoted, I am well aware that there are various reductions and exemptions, usually available to people of all ages.sourcrates said:
As SLY says, it depends on your specific circumstances and what benefits you are entitled too.p00hsticks said:
Do you have anything to back that up please ?sourcrates said:
I`m surprised she`s still paying CT at her age, most people on state pension don`t.elmer said:Its unlikely to be written off, the Council will expect the bailiffs to arrest her bank account and take the amounts due that way, would she be eligible for any reduction due to income that you could help her apply for going forward?
My elderly mother is certainly still paying full council tax, although I've recently claimed the single person discount for her following the death of my father. I know that people on low incomes of any age can apply for a council tax reduction, but other than that as far as I'm aware there are no concessions just because you are in receipt of a state pension, and most pensioners I know I think pay the full amount.
My late brothers CT was reduced to about a quarter because of CT reduction.
But it's a big jump from there to the assertion that 'most people on state pension don't pay council tax', which is the part of you post I was querying (because I'm not convinced it's correct).2 -

I don't know what percentage of pensioners claim Pension Credit but my guess is it is a small percentage, so if the majority of pensioners are not claiming means tested benefits it is unlikely they are claiming council tax benefit.
BTW I have been receiving retirement pension 20 years next week and I have always paid full council tax.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
I was just generalising, apologies if its incorrect.p00hsticks said:
