I got an email from resolvecall a few weeks ago on behalf of Jefferson capital Acquisition saying I owed £230 but if I paid £115 then the matter would be closed. I was out and came back home this morning to a letter put through my door saying they had called and to contact the asap. I don't actually know what the debt if for as it doesn't say on the email or letter. Any help would be appreciated.

A typically random note, deliberately devoid of information so that you call them to find out what its all about.
You can ignore posted notes and emails, standard debt collector tactic to get you to initiate contact.
It will likely be an old statute barred or otherwise unenforceable debt from years ago judging by the substantial discount on offer.
If they can be bothered to write to you, send the provit letter to them (see link in my signature) standard response when a DCA writes asking you to pay a debt.

Resolvecall are agents who have no idea what the debt is about, and have as much legal power as next door's cat.
They are routinely used by companies who've bought a load of very old debt for a pittance, may not be exactly sure who the debtor was or its legal status and hope to get a small percentage of people to pay up even if the debt can't be enforced.
Wait for a letter from them and if one arrives send the prove it letter from the stickies here. You don't pay debt if it's not yours or is unenforceable. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thank you so much, I was getting myself in a state.1
