Hi all, I’m posting on behalf of one of my neighbours.
She is about to move and has asked me to post here as she is somewhat unconfident with computers, internet etc…
She was made bankrupt in May 2014 and discharged a year later. Has been financially responsible ever since, with no loans, cards or such like.
Having worked hard and saved, together with a small sum from her mums passing, she’s now buying a small house and has a dilemma. House & contents insurance for former bankrupts ..
So, the question is, which insurance companies do offer house / contents policies to former bankrupts ?

It's been a while since her bankruptcy so hopefully be ok but she must read the assumptions and answer the questions..have you ever been bankrupt truthfully.
I'm 12 years post bankruptcy and have no problem1 -
If you or anyone else reading this thread has particular companies they know are friendly for this ?0

Though I have never had a problem with getting insurance, I went bankrupt in 2006.If they ask then you have to answer honestly.I've used the various comparison sites and quote zone, there is no need to pay silly prices for home insurance. I only need content insurance and my current provider said my renewal this year would be £129. So I shopped around and went with Tesco for £62. But I'm also very tight (frugal if you like) and want to pay the least amount possible.1

I was with M&S insurance (contents only) for a couple of years before my BR. When I went BR, called them and let them know, they were completely unphased, even continued to let my pay monthly by DD. Received new documents a few days after confirming the update on my account, Whether this would be different if I was having buildings insurance as well I don't know.

I rent from council , council have deals with thistle insurance, and thistle insurer does not need to know about bankruptcy, they don't refuse, I asked them.Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

Update: just a quick update about my friend’s experience .. she moved to her new place and successfully got insurance through Tesco insurance. She carefully read everything and the only relevant wording / question was if she was undischarged or not. Most ex BR are obviously discharged so this was very helpful. Good for her to have found a provider, more than competitive too.0
