Hi I followed Martin's advice regarding claiming as my wife is a non-taxpayer. It is over a month since we applied on the HMRC website and have heard nothing other than an acknowledgement. Is this normal as other responses to Martin's wonderful web-site seemed to suggest it was dealt with quickly Any advice appreciated.

Do you have access to your Tax Account online? You could check to see if your Tax Code has been altered.
The GOV.UK site does say it can take up to 2 months to appear.1 -
Thanks for response. Yes I do have online access but it has not changed. That said I was unaware that it could take up to two months. On Martin's web-site the inference from people's feedback was it was really quick.flaneurs_lobster said:Do you have access to your Tax Account online? Has your wife made retrospective applications or just one for the current tax year?moyke said:Hi I followed Martin's advice regarding claiming as my wife is a non-taxpayer. Does she have any PAYE income? Do you?
Have you definitely understood how Marriage Allowance works?

Something doesn't seem right then, I would have expected you at least, if not your wife, to have received an updated tax code for the current year very quickly (assuming they were retrospective and current tax year applications).moyke said:

Have you checked what your Personal Tax Account shows?
Unless you happen to have a K code your new code with Marriage Allowance included should end with M instead of L.

I just want to say that Martin's advice tends to cause volumes of work for HMRC, so there could be thousands of people who also submitted a request. Take it easy and wait.

- Q1/2025 = 125.3k (interest rate dropped from 5.19% - 4.69%)
