Half day holiday entitlement

Hi
I’m doing a part time job , the hours being Tuesday 8am till 2pm , Thursday 8am till 2pm, Friday 8pm till 11am
i take a half hour break on the Tuesday and Thursday but not on the Friday .
if I take a holiday off on a Friday should that be classed as a half day ? Or down to the discretion of the company ?

Do they work out your leave in days or hours?
it varies between companies, but mine is in ours so if I take a full day they knock off seven hours (Part timers are pro-rata depending on how many hours a week they work in comparison to full-time staff)And if I want less than a full day I put in the start and end time and they knock off that number of hours from my leave entitlement. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
My leave is calculated in days , I’m entitled to 12 days a year and 5 statutory dayselsien said:Do they work out your leave in days or hours?

The minimum statutory leave equates to 28 days for someone working 5 days a week. As you work 3 days a week your minimum entitlement would be 16.8 days and so they have rounded that up to 17. (It is the apportionment of the 8 bank holidays which has been rounded up.)johnnyren said:

However you should watch out regarding those "statutory" days.
You don't work Mondays and I don't think there are ever any years in which 5 normal bank holidays fall other than on a Monday.
Assuming the Friday time is from 8 am, you are really only working 2.5 days a week. So they are counting Friday as a full day when calculating your entitlement. If they worked out your holiday entitlement in hours, you could end up with less holiday. Perhaps it is best to not raise this as an issue but ensure you don't take too many Fridays as holiday.

Thanks for reply , The 5 statutory holidays are marked up on my holiday sheet to be taken along with the 12 days annual leaveGeneral_Grant said:johnnyren said:Hi

I was under the impression that due to the way Xmas and new year falls I would need two of them to cover that , Hopefully leaving the remaining 3 days to take as I wish , Do you not think this would be the case ?0 -
I hope that’s a typo - a 15 hour shift with no break definitely isn’t legaljohnnyren said:Hi

The 15 hrs are over 3 days , I get a half hour break on the Tuesday and Thursday , I don’t take one on the 3 hr Friday shiftLightFlare said:

You said you started at 8 PM. You meant 8 am.0 -
Depending on when your holiday year runs (Jan-Dec or Apr-Mar are common), the Christmas & New Year holidays could use up 3 "statutory" days or fall on just one of your normal working days.johnnyren said:

It is not a case of "hopefully". The company is only allowing the statutory minimum entitlement and therefore the other days are definitely still part of your entitlement.
(Of course the company could still tell you when to take your holidays. Legally you do not have the right to take them as you "wish" but you must be allowed the time.)
