Self Assessment Newbie unexpected 22-23 request

I have never done SA before but, as my savings interest will now exceed £10,000, I contacted HMRC to register for SA. They have sent me a letter last week requesting I complete the SA for 23/24.  I have kept records so feel quite confident about this (!)

However, today I received another letter requesting me to complete SA for 22/23 as well.  This is going to be a major problem for me as I am the sort of person who switches accounts to get the best rates and I have not kept any records for 22/23 as I didn't envisage being asked for this info.  Would I be expected to contact every building society I can ever remember having dealings with to get the info?  I understand the institutions provide this info to HMRC so could I ask HMRC for their info and then just enter it in the SA and send it back to them!?

Thank you for any advice!

Did HMRC send you a P800 tax statement late last year, covering the 2022/23 tax payable from (their records of) savings interest and seeking payment, either as a one-off or via PAYE code adjustment for 2024/25?

@eskbanker Thank you very much - yes, I've found the P800 and it does tell me the interest total.

Just to be clear though, if you've been asked to complete a self-assessment for that year, you're formally declaring that the figures you supply are accurate, so simply using those that HMRC have (or at least had last year) isn't necessarily the correct answer, and you should be prepared to show your workings, based on your own records, which you ought to update based on the data from each of the providers (and/or your own transaction data to/from such accounts), time-consuming though that may be.

Thanks.  It is just unfortunate that I didn't think I would ever be asked for this info.  I'll have to go through all my records with a fine toothcomb as I am just worried about completely overlooking one of the accounts.
