Tax deductible medical expense conundrum!

Hi all
I am a self-employed gardener with a badly damaged knee.
The NHS are suggesting that I need a new knee but I'm still waiting to see a surgeon for the definitive answer.
As a gardener, my knees are critical, especially with the amount of lawn mowing currently required.
Being self-employed, I get no sick pay and I have to keep working ..................... it really hurts!
I'm thinking of having my knee done privately and wonder whether those fees would be tax deductable.
Any good news really would be appreciated.

Medical expenses are not allowable, similarly were you to be an employee you would have to pay taxes on private medical insurance your employer buys you as a benefit in kind.1

Sorry, but you would not be allowed a deduction for the cost of knee surgery.
